Policy on “Mercenaries” and backup players.

The WTC Committee understands that sometimes real life issues can cause a player to drop from a team.  Or sometimes it is difficult for a smaller nation to completely fill one team.  In these instances, it is acceptable to petition the Committee to allow a “backup” or “mercenary” player to fill up the slot.

“Mercenary” player policy

The procedure for this is to first email the Committee with your request and the reason for it.  Approval will be granted for reasonable requests.  Thereafter the team member will be treated as a member of the team’s country.  However, we will still try to avoid using a referee from someone’s own country in the promotion of fairness.

“Backup” player policy

Back up team members must submit their lists at the same time as the core team does.  In addition, they must specify for which core team member(s) they will be a substitute for.

Please contact us if you have any questions on these policies.  Thank you.
