We are very pleased to announce that the WTC 2014 will offer occasion for not 32, but 64 teams to participate! This will allow all countries that desire to do so, to bring a second team.
Based on the current high demand, the small but non-zero number of second teams that would get to come, the added social value of second teams, and last but not least the results of the survey sent to all Captains, we decided this was the best solution for this year. For organisational and logistical reasons, there is no guarantee that future events will maintain 64 teams, other measures to allow more people to attend (such as larger teams) will be re-examined at that time.
This also means that an extra round will need to be played. Saturday will have 4 rounds, and Sunday will have 2, so as not to run the event late and interfere with travel schedules.
Due to the particularities of the Swiss tournament system that are undoubtedly very well known to all of you, we would like to get the roster as close to 64 teams as we can. Depending on the number of registrations for second teams, it is possible we will also consider third teams.
This determination for third teams will be made at the end of the next registration period that runs February 1st – April 1st. At the end of this period, all team Captains will receive final confirmation of their participation. The per-country priority for second and third teams will be the same as for the first.
